Dear Colleagues:
Welcome back! We hope your spring 25 semester is off to a great start!
As of SP25, our new UF President, Marina Crouse, has begun her term. Our site Vice Presidents are: Katie Krolikowski @ CCC, Matthew Powell @ DVC, and Marci Lapriore @ LMC. UF Part Time Advocate is Doug Dildine and Jason Mayfield is now our UF Executive Director.
We are happy to kick off the New Year with a huge legislative win: after decades of advocacy, President Joe Biden signed the Social Security Fairness Act into law—a significant victory for public service workers such as teachers, firefighters, and police officers. This legislation removes two provisions—the Windfall Elimination Provision and Government Pension Offset—that have reduced Social Security benefits for retirees receiving state or local government pensions.
With payments backdated from January 2024, nearly 3 million retirees will see increased Social Security payments. These changes rectify a 40-year inequity, offering economic security and dignity in retirement to public servants. FACCC has long championed this effort, advocating for fairness and equity for public employees, especially for part-time faculty, who will benefit immensely from the repeal. This victory underscores the importance of persistent advocacy in achieving meaningful change.
Amid pressure from FACCC, students, and professors, the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office released a new guidance memo regarding AB 1705, allowing access to one or two-semester sequences prior to calculus for students who did not successfully complete equivalent coursework in high school. This is a huge victory!
Our first Eboard meeting is February 6th from 2:45-5:30. We welcome public comments from 2:45-2:55 and attendance for the first part of our meeting. Please join us to make a public comment and / or to hear about what is going on during our general session time. To attend please email Lorena in the UF Office for the meeting zoom link: uf@uf4cd.org.
scheduled for Friday, May 2, 2025. More information on how to register in the coming weeks.
